The Callaway RAZR Fit Xtreme is the longest adjustable driver on the market, claims Callaway. Compared to the previous model the lighter crown combines with the new speed frame face to lower the centre of gravity by 30%. This reduces the amount of backspin by around 300 rpm, resulting in distance gains of around 10 yards.

The Callaway RAZR Fit Xtreme driver is packed with the same technology as used in last year's RAZR Fit with a forged composite crown, OptiFit hosel, and moveable weights, yet there subtle changes to this year's version.

For starters, the face feels much faster given it's thinner and deeper. I no doubt believe this was a contributor to my reduced spin rate off the tee.

The club also features a new Adilia Trinity shaft and this combines the benefits of previous shafts like the consitent flex (Multilayer), core structure (S-Core) and tip flex (RIP). It felt a little heavier than before at 69g but it's very stable and provides a solid engine for the forged composite head.

The Callaway RAZR Fit Xtreme has a very classic look with black crown and black face. Yet if you're after something louder and little crazier, Callaway offers an innovative custom line called “Udesign” where you can choose the color of the crown and the sole for an extra £35.

The hosel of this driver features two settings away from neutral which is a bit limiting, but the open and closed settings can be enhanced with the weights and are a good fine tuning option if you need it.

Sound at impact is very sweet indeed. The sound is solid and slightly duller, as you would expect from a small headed composite driver.

Distance-wise it was right up there with other drivers I've tested this season, but with the fine tuning and fitting service of a Callaway fitter you will certainly benefit from distance gains even more.

Accuracy is right up there with any other driver on the market today, too. Then again, I believe accuracy is a player’s characteristic, not the club’s.

Verdict

Solid off the tee, straight and looks the part. Little wonder why Phil Mickelson is raving about this club.
