BEST CLUBS I'VE EVER OWNED

Forgiveness,forged feel, workability.
Oversize blade may not appeal to low handicappers.
I am a decent golfer but life gets in the way of heavy practice. Comp EZ with the OS head gives me forgiveness without losing the forged feel I desire for when I'm in the groove. I have hit many new offerings from all the big and small name manufacturers and these still hit farther and feel better than just about everything out there.

CLASSICS TO STICK WITH

Not much forgiveness is sacrificed for the solid feel and penetrating ball flight.
Slightly narrower sole than now fashionable is ideal for links. Great value secondhand.
Smaller heads would be better in the rough (but less forgiving on off-centre strikes). Soles less suited to soggy parkland. No longer available new.
Mizuno never really replaced the Comp EZ. Their subsequent forged offerings have either been too small for my taste and ability or if the head is the right size suffer from bouncy Callaway-style soles.
Dynamic Gold shafts perfect for me but plenty of sets out there offering higher ball flight from Rifle or graphite.

EZ BY NAME, EASY BY NATURE

Great feel, forgiveness, distance and control - everything I was looking for in my first 'proper' set of irons and I can't see myself changing them. I gained one to two clubs distance changing up from my previous cast clubs. The feel and forgiveness of the the forged heads seem to be the main benefits and their looks and enlarged sweetspot(s) inspire lots of confidence for the mid-handicapper. Great all-rounders.
The forged heads mark very easily - club covers essential! The 51 degree Gap wedge can hard to find but is very important and very few manufacturers produce one of this angle; Cleveland do but I don't think it's a mid-size head, like the EZ (or MX-20) Sand wedge. They can rust a bit too and benefit from the occasional wipe down with an oily rag.
I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't want everyone to know what great clubs these are; they are just fantastic for the improving player. I bought mine of eBay 2.5 years ago and have been just delighted with them. I get consistent distance and feel, great backspin, a little extra forgiveness thanks to them being mid-sized and I wouldn't wish to have anything to replace them. Did you know that Ignacio Garrido won the 2003 PGA at Wentworth using this club's replacement, the MX20? I also saw a half page picture in the Daily Telegraph of a Callaway-sposnored player at this years British Masters, Forest of Arden, using MX20's as well. But that's not to say they are only for better players, far from it. I've had single figure scores for the first time since buying these and my shot-making and confidence from 200 yards in have leapt up since I started using them. Three of my friends have bought Mizuno forged irons after using my set, upgrading from their Wilson's, Titleist's and Taylor Made's; another friend used mine last night and is treating himself to a set too. You should do the same, just don't forget the head covers... and the big smile when you crack another one pin high.

BUTTERY GOODNESS

The forged feeling you get from hitting it out of the sweetspot. Small enough head which allows you to work the ball but a large enough cavity so you don't lose that much distance on toe hits. Very minimal offset for a cavity back iron.
The finish isn't the most robust. Some of the T-Zoid bars have had their finish worn off by the clubs banging against each other in my bag. It is quite easy to dink these irons. Mizuno has stopped making them.
A fine balance between forgiveness and workability. Ideal of the improving golfer.

Takes iron play to another level

Pure feel when hit from the sweetspot and no real disasters if not hit perfectly, but you can tell. This encourages improvement in striking the ball.
Long irons deliver a powerful flight and are workable.
Beautifully constructed simple head shape is probably the definitive for club play, being not as razor like as a blade nor as bulky and unsightly as the usual run of the mill forgiving irons.
Have hardly read a bad review on this iron, they must surely be a classic and I was quite surprised when Mizuno discontinued them.
The good thing is they can still be obtained at far less than their original price.
More suited to an improving golfer whose handicap is falling and wants a set of clubs that will be as good for an 8 handicapper as an 18 handicapper.
Being forged they must get plenty of TLC, they can get scuffed up if abused.
Terrific club, particularly with the steel shaft. Hard to see how irons could be improved beyond this for serious club players.
