Creamer gets season off to ace start
But it was all part of the plan, reveals the World No.5
Paula Creamer went seven full LPGA Tour seasons without a hole-in-one. But this year she had to wait just 12 holes as she claimed her maiden career ace during her first round of 2012 on Thursday.
Despite going on to card an opening level-par 72 to lie five shots adrift of leader Ai Miyazato, the 2010 US Women’s Open champion was delighted to slam home a 7-iron from 146 yards at the par-3 12th at Siam Country Club in Thailand.
“My first hole in one on the LPGA Tour, that was pretty exciting,” said the World No.5, who missed last week’s season-opening Women’s Australian Open to be a bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding.
“The funny part about it is in the practice round I told my caddie Colin that I’m going to have a hole-in-one this year, I know it. And then it happened today. So maybe I should say that more often.”
Creamer, who has been working on a number of swing changes during the off-season, then took to Twitter to reveal her game is ‘probably the most technical it’s ever been’.
“Took my new swing to the course today and I was very pleased,” tweeted Creamer. “Good to get the rust off feeling good with three days left.”
Miyazato, who won the Honda Thailand in 2010, once again finds herself in familiar territory after firing a round of 67 for a one-shot lead over Australian Karrie Webb and Swede Anna Nordqvist.
