My first golf trip overseas to Europe was curtesy of "new" friends my wife and I met at our local golf club. To be really honest we were very suprised to be asked!
So 4 years ago we flew off to that far distant place - Faro, yes it was to the Algarve and what an eye opener it was.
Stayed at what we now know as "old faithful" Vila Gale, Tavira. What a beautiful town to stay in,lots of cafe's, restaurants and a wonderful old town to walk around in the evening.
The 1st year (yes we've been back 3 times now) we played Castro Marim, Quinta da Cim, Quinta da Ria and Benamoor, 2nd year the same courses again, last year we dropped Benamoor and played Castro Marim twice and included a twighlight at Monte Rei (£125 but worth it)
Recently returned from our trip this year, we had a change this time and stayed and played at Penina, lovely hotel and golf course. We decided to play Monte Rei again as it is such a lovely course, the scenery is outstanding on some of the holes. (twighlights still £125 ish)
Portugal is now an annual event for us, fortunately we all get on and enjoy good food and local wine, another likely annual trip will be to La Duquesa golf & hotel. We went last October, the hotel was empty as were the golf courses. We played Dequesa, la Finca Cortesin and San Roque, all a bargain for less than £400 inc flights.
There are some great bargains to be had when you look around, but I recommend any of the above trips and courses to anyone.
I'll tell you about our other golf games in Florida, Kenya, Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia another time, dodging alligators, lizards and snakes (the last 2 in the club house).
