Phil Mickelson reveals LIV Golf will continue to take PGA Tour players

Phil Mickelson has taken to social media to reveal more 'great players' from the PGA Tour will continue to join LIV Golf in 2025.

LIV Golf sent shockwaves around the sport at the end of 2023 when they confirmed the signature of former World No.1 and two-time major champion Jon Rahm.

It is understood Rahm signed on the dotted line for a reported $600m in a five-year deal.

Rahm has yet to register a single individual title in the first half of the LIV Golf season.

Other major champions who have made big money-moves from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf over recent years include Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed.

According to Mickelson, who joined LIV Golf himself for a reported $200m in 2022, there will be plenty more big-name PGA Tour players joining the Saudi-bankrolled circuit come the end of this season.

Brooks Koepka, who became the first player to win four LIV Golf titles on Sunday, earlier this week reiterated LIV Golf will still be going things alone even if its bankrollers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, do end up working with the PGA Tour.

There have been calls from many in the industry for the PGA Tour and LIV Golf to bang their heads together and find a way to bring the best players all together again, just like we saw at The Masters last month.

The PGA Tour has been doing its best to keep hold of its leading stars, not only with its $20m signature events but also its new billion-dollar equity pot to reward its most effective players both on and off the course.

This has all been made possible following an investment deal with Strategic Sports Group (SSG) earlier this season.

Viktor Hovland is the favourite for next player to join LIV Golf

While it is unkown as to which PGA Tour players could end up joining LIV Golf ahead of the 2025 season, it is understood European Ryder Cup hero Viktor Hovland has been installed as the new favourite as the next player to join the breakaway league.

Tony Finau's name has been heavily linked to LIV Golf over the past 12 months, as too has Wyndham Clark.

All three above players have confirmed their allegiance to the PGA Tour, however, so it would be something of a surprise if either of them moves to LIV Golf anytime soon.

Then again, didn't Mr Rahm say he was happy on the PGA Tour about 12 months ago?!

Mickelson thinks more 'great players' will join LIV Golf

Mickelson made his comment about more 'great players' joining the breakaway league over the coming years in a reply to Flushing It's tweet about the future of major exemptions for LIV Golf players.

Lefty tweeted: "Maybe some LIV players won’t be missed. But what if NONE of the LIV players played? Would they be missed? What about next year when more great players join? Or the following year? At some point they will care and will have to answer to sponsors and television."
