Summary: The 588 MT - forming one third of a new family that includes Altitude and Tour Trajectory irons - is all about control. The centre of gravity is positioned in a more neutral place in the head, while the hollow construction ensures plenty of forgiveness.

Appearance:
Similar to the Baffler, we were a little skeptical by the look of the giant cavity back and deeper than usual centre of gravity. The design looks more likened to a driving iron. 5

Feel: The 588 MT puts a focus on feel with its full Hollow Construction and deep centre of gravity. We were taken by the forged clubface and multi-material insert of polymer and aluminium at the rear of the head as it dampened vibration and softened the feel of the strike. The noise of clubhead meeting ball then turf felt consistently crisp. 8.5

Performance: The advanced internal weighting of the MT provided us with impressive forgiveness and the deep centre of gravity produced desired high ball flights strike after strike. 9.5

Verdict

We are not keen on how this iron looks at address or in general, but both feel and performance showed us enough here to suggest the MT is a very good option for the mid-to-high handicapper seeking the consistency of high launch and forgiveness. 23
