Benross Quad Speed RIP

NEW! 10 OF THE BEST: GAME IMPROVEMENT IRONS 2014

Brand: Benross
Game improvement iron: Quad Speed RIP
RRP: £349 Best price: £249
Loft: 28-degree Lie: 61.5-degree Length: 37.25” Swing Weight: D2
Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Lite Grip:Concept 10 Tour Traction

Summary: A deep cavity back is combined with perimeter weighting and a slight offset hosel, designed to promote forgiveness on off-centre hits. The head is weighted in a way that increases MOI to help square the face at impact.

Appearance:
Having already realised in this test that irons are breaking away from the traditional silver, the smoked chrome finish once again helped reduce glare at address. Nothing particularly exciting going on in terms of design, just a smart, appealing golf club. 7.5

Feel: Crafted from soft 431 carbon steel, this iron was one of the softest feeling irons in the test. The weight of this iron combined with Dynamic Gold Lite shaft felt great in the hands and the standard Concept 10 Tour Traction grip also felt comfortable. If you could perform a blind testing, you would struggle to feel the difference between this and a top-end iron. 8

Performance: The club was travelling as far as other 6-irons in this test as the laser milled grooves help fly the ball high in the sky on a pleasing mid-to-high launch and 164-yard average. Workability both ways was also simple. 8

Verdict

The attention to detail and beautiful aesthetics of this iron, from the laser cut face grooves to the smoked chrome finish, make it a great choice for mid-high handicap golfers. For a set retailing for less than £300, the RIP represents unbelievable value for money. 23.5
