Rory McIlroy will use a new Callaway Great Big Bertha Epic Sub Zero driver and Callaway Apex MB irons when he makes his first start of the season at the South African Open on January 12, according to a report from No Laying Up

McIlroy, now a free agent in the equipment world following Nike Golf's decision to concentrate solely on footwear and apparel, switched to play the TaylorMade M2 driver towards the end of 2016, but has seemingly been more impressed with what Callaway has to offer in 2017.

The world number two, who ended 2016 in style when capturing the PGA Tour's season-long FedEx Cup, will also play with Titleist Vokey wedges, a prototype Odyssey putter and Titleist Pro V1x ball.

NLU also reports that McIlroy will not be signing any equipment deals in 2017.

Tiger Woods, a fellow Nike endorser, has yet to confirm his choice of equipment for 2017 but has signed a deal with Bridgestone to play with its golf balls.
