13-year-old beats Dustin Johnson and Tommy Fleetwood in Beat the Pro challenge

Oscar Murphy, a 13-year-old golfer off a 6-handicap, beat world number one Dustin Johnson and 2017 Race to Dubai champion Tommy Fleetwood in a nearest-the-pin Beat the Pro challenge on day one of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

The Northern Irishman, one of the HSBC’s Future Falcons, carved his coloured golf ball with a 3-wood toward a back-right pin, about 25 feet away, closer than both Johnson and Fleetwood.

“An unbelievable shot,” Fleetwood said afterward, “and me and Rory both said, ‘We don’t have that in our locker.’”

Rory McIlroy, who was also in the group of Johnson and Fleetwood, only narrowly got inside the ball of Murphy.

"Rory's next," said a cheeky Murphy after his efforts.

Fleetwood continued where he left off last season by posting a 6-under 66 to share the first-round lead with Japan's Hideto Tanihara.

McIlroy opened with a flawless 3-under 69 in his first tournament in three months, while Johnson posted a disappointing level-par 72.
