Augusta National lengthens fifth hole to counter modern game

Masters venue Augusta National has begun plans to add 30 yards to its par-4 5th hole, making it play upwards of 485 yards.

"The new hole will play upwards of 485 yards in an attempt to restore the shot value that has been taken away by the distances achieved by the modern game," said Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte.

The 5th hole played the sixth toughest during the 2018 Masters, with an average score for the week of 4.16 including 26 birdies, 186 pars, 64 bogeys and four doubles.

The par-4 11th hole played the toughest as it always does.
