Baby hospitalised after being struck in eye by golf ball

A three-month old baby is currently in hospital after being struck in the eye by a golf ball as a man arrested over the incident has been released on bail.

The baby was hit in the eye by the golf ball on Friday evening at a playground in Radley's Park in Sheldon.

According to reports, a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and he has since been released on bail with conditions pending further enquiries.

Witnesses say the baby's injury sparked a brawl between him and 20 other people.

West Midlands Police has launched a major investigation into the incident.

Mother-of-two Katie, 27, who lives near the park, told Mail Online: "I heard screaming and looked out of the window and saw somebody holding a baby.

"I happened to open the door and saw a woman run past, I think going back to hers.

"I asked if she was OK.

"She said she had called an ambulance because her baby had been hit in the eye and blood was pouring down its face and needed a wet cloth.

"The man who hit the golf ball from the other side of the park had two young children with him."

It was alleged the suspect was then involved in a fight with youths.
