Steven Gerrard turned out 710 times for Liverpool

The 2018 European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn is hoping to get his “absolute hero of all time” Steven Gerrard to speak to his troops before the event.

The Dane is an avid Liverpool fan and is a particular admirer of the midfield legend, who recently retired following a 19-year career.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson spoke to the players before the 2014 Ryder Cup

“I think he is an inspirational guy for so many reasons,” he told the Daily Mirror. “To stay at a club for that long, while he realised he might not win everything and he could have gone pretty much where he wanted, that says a lot about the man.

“Getting him in as an inspirational speaker is one of the things I have to look at.”

Gerrard, 36, played 710 times for Liverpool, winning nine trophies before moving to LA Galaxy in 2015.
