In recent years we've had the likes of Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia win this prestigious award, but now it's Frankie's time.

The Italian Stallion has had a year to remember, winning The Open at Carnoustie, the PGA Championship and the Race to Dubai.

He also became the first European player in history to win all five of his Ryder Cup matches, when Team Europe conquered Team USA in Paris back in September.

One half of the beloved 'Moliwood' pairing with his close friend Tommy Fleetwood, the 36-year-old dominated the Americans and produced some of the finest performances Team Europe has ever seen, including a four and two victory over the recent $9m winner, Phil Mickelson.

Fleetwood, who was Molinari's closest rival in the Race to Dubai this year, took to Twitter to congratulate his friend on receiving the European Tour Golfer of the Year award...
