Iconic par-3 competition at the Masters CANCELLED due to no fans
The traditional Masters par-3 competition has been cancelled from this year's event as there will be no spectators there to see it.
The final major of the year is right around the corner, but this year's Masters will be without the traditional par-3 competition due to the fact that no spectators will be attending the event.
Last year, Matt Wallace won the entertaining competition, beating Sandy Lyle who was close to winning the par-3 event for the third time, having won it for a second time 21 years prior.
Sam Snead is the only player in history to have gone on to win the Masters in the same week as winning the par-3 tournament, which he accomplished over 70 years ago.
Plans are in place for fans to return to the Masters in 2021, which would also see the return of the par-3 competition and Augusta chairman Fred Ridley reiterated the importance of spectators being in attendance for the event.
"We know that experience could not have been replicated without guests and patrons at Augusta National, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to bring back this signature tradition," said Ridley.
This year's Masters tournament will be broadcasted live in over 200 countries and territories, as part of a "new and enhanced" television experience.
"Given the circumstances brought about by the pandemic, the delivery of quality content is as important as ever to the storytelling of the Masters Tournament," he added.
"While we will dearly miss our patrons at Augusta National this fall, we are excited to showcase what promises to be a truly memorable Masters in a variety of ways for viewers around the world."
