Robert Karlsson has been named European vice-captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup in France.
Captain Thomas Bjorn nominated the Swede, 47, who competed in Europe’s triumphant 2006 team and the losing side in 2008.
"I've played in two Ryder Cups so I have the experience of what the players will face and also have a lot of experience on the European Tour,” Karlsson said.
"I know the players well and I know Thomas very well too."
He is the first appointment made by Denmark’s Bjorn for the event at Le Golf National from 28-30 September.
"Robert will be a vital foil for me over the next 16 months in all aspects of our preparation, including helping analyse statistical information on players,” said Bjorn.
"I know he will give me his honest opinion on everything I ask."
Europe are bidding to win back the Ryder Cup after losing at Hazeltine last year.
