Legendary starter Ivor Robson replacement named
...and it's a Scot named Scott
Ivor Robson left gargantuan shoes to fill, but his replacement on the European Tour has been named - and it's a fellow Scot named Scott.
Alastair Scott is the European Tour’s new official starter, taking over from Robson.
“I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been offered this position,” said Scott. “Down the years, Ivor’s voice became synonymous with the game of golf and his inimitable delivery is certainly missed among players as well as golf fans.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed following in his footsteps this year and I look forward to continuing my role on the first tee at some of golf’s greatest events in future.”
Robson, who held the role for 41 years, earned legendary status among golf fans. His unique delivery, humour and dedication enamoured him to a wide audience.
Scott spent 40 years at the BBC, starting as cameraman before climbing the ranks to be executive producer of the Open and other events.
