Masters tickets DROP IN PRICE due to coronavirus outbreak

With speculation mounting The Masters could be played behind closed doors for the first ever time at Augusta National in April due to coronavirus, ticket prices have fallen in price dramatically according to SeatGeek

While still incredibly pricey to watch the action at The Masters, ticket prices have been slashed for the first round on April 9 down to $1,163.

SeatGeek has currently priced up a ticket to the second round at $1,000, with both Saturday and Sunday up for $900.

Putting this into perspective, a day-one badge to golf's first major of the year was $3,616 in 2016, $3,211 in 2017 and north of $4,000 in both 2018 and 2019.

"With fears growing about the coronavirus, and the plummeting stock market, get-in prices for the tournament are down 30 percent and at a five-year low,” said Jesse Lawrence, the founder of TicketIQ.

Monday and Tuesday practice round tickets for this year's tournament have been priced up at around $500, with Wednesday’s practice ticket up for little more than $600.

The Masters is set to take place at Augusta National from 9 to 13 April, with Tiger Woods defending his title (if he's fit to play), but due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the first major of the year could be played without any spectators.

Last week, Augusta National Chairman Fred Riley released a statement confirming that The Masters was still going ahead, despite the growing spread of the coronavirus.

"The safety, health and well-being of everyone is our top priority at Augusta National Golf Club," Ridley said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Based upon our knowledge of the situation at this time, we are proceeding as scheduled for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals and the Masters Tournament."
