Tiger Woods falls just shy of US Ryder Cup's automatic eight

Tiger Woods has fallen narrowly shy of an automatic pick in the United States Ryder Cup side for the biennial clash with Europe at the end of September at Le Golf National.

Woods finished runner-up behiind three-time major champion Brooks Koepka at the US PGA on Sunday to move up to 11th in the US Ryder Cup points race, which has now reached its deadline for the automatic eight.

"I do want to be on the team as a player. I'm going to be there either way," said Woods.

"Our captain has some decisions to make after the first [FedEx Cup] playoff events, and we'll sit down and give him our input and what we think and who should be on the team, and who can contribute to the team," Woods said, "and hopefully my name will be part of that process."

US PGA: WOODS CONTENT WITH RUNNER-UP FINISH

Jim Furyk's US side has been automatically filled by Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson.

Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson fell narrowly outside the automatic spots in ninth and 10th, with Woods back in 11th.

There was, however, some movement in the European ranks with Ian Poulter moving up into eighth and bumping Paul Casey out of the automatic picks.

Thomas Bjorn's European automatics across the World Points List and European Points List will not conclude until September 2.
