Ping’s new G5 driver

Determined to cash in on the success of its G2 driver, among top tour pros and the lower handicap amateur players, Ping is introducing two new G5 drivers, including an offset version to promote a draw flight.

The 460cc standard G5 has a titanium head and features new internal weighting distribution which the makers claim re-positions the centre of gravity for lower spin rates, sharper launch angle and greater distance.

Ping adds that the new face geometry ensures higher ball speed while the confidence-inspiring head will provide similar forgiveness to the G2. Lofts have been increase by half a degree to offer 7.5, 9, 10.5, 12 and 13.5 options as well as three graphite shafts for even more accurate custom fitting.

G5 Offset version for those looking for draw spin

The Ping TFC100D is the standard shaft and will be available in four flexes (soft R, regular, stiff and X-stiff). The Aldila NV 65 and the Grafalloy ProLaunch 65 also are offered as stock shaft choices in three flexes (regular, stiff and X-stiff).

The G5 Offset driver has been designed to promote a right-to-left ball flight for right-handers and will be available in 9, 10.5 and 12 degree lofts. Recommended price for both clubs is £249.
