Odyssey Metal-X

Callaway Golf has rolled out its new Odyssey Metal-X line of dual-layered, textured insert putters.

The Metal-X, says Callaway, provides golfers the crisp feedback of a metal striking surface with the benefits of a softer feel for optimal touch, while looking aesthetically pleasing at address.

In an effort to improve feel and performance, Odyssey claims the new line features a lightweight aluminium outer layer and urethane inner layer to deliver a more consistent roll.

“The texture on the face does two things - it reduces surface contact and increases edge contact between the face and the ball,” said Odyssey’s principal designer Austie Rollinson.

“Reducing the surface contact during impact helps us create a solid, yet soft, sound at impact. That sound equates to feel, so it’s a great feeling insert.

“The idea for the new Metal-X putters came from working with several Tour players who liked the look and performance of our putters but wanted the feel of a more metallic face.”

First introduced on professional tours in early February, Metal-X putters have already been put in play by numerous players, including JB Holmes and Alvaro Quiros.

Available April 15 in Metal-X Core models #1, #6, #7, #9 and Rossie (RRP £109), Metal-X Progressive D.A.R.T (RRP £139), Metal-X 2-Ball (RRP £149) and Belly and Long Metal-X (RRP £159) at
