Callaway’s red-hot rookie Branden Grace once again underlined his billing as the new star of South African golf at the Volvo Golf Champions.

With the ink hardly dry on Grace’s cheque from the Joburg Open, the 23-year-old, who qualified for the 34-man field at the last minute, clinched his second title in the space of seven days by fending off the challenge of his boyhood heroes Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.

The powerful-hitting Grace used his Callaway FT Tour driver to great effect at Fancourt Links, ranking sixth in driving distance, as well as finding 73.2% of the fast-running fairways. He also performed admirably with his Callaway X-Forged irons, finishing the week tenth in greens in regulation on 72.2%.

But the Q-School grad saved his best stat for the greens, ranking third in putts per round with an average of 28 putts per round.

Grace poured home the putts on the back nine with his Odyssey Black Series Tour Design #1, hauling back a four-shot deficit, before triumphing at the first extra hole with a birdie-four.

“Thanks must go to Callaway as they’ve stuck with me for quite some time now,” said the current Race to Dubai leader, who has already locked away more than €570,000 this month. “They have been great and their equipment is just unbelievable.”

Neil Howie, President of Callaway Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Back-to-back wins for any golf professional is an amazing feat but for it to be achieved by a player fresh from European Tour Qualifying School is quite incredible.

“Callaway undertakes a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work to support players like Branden and, backed by the introduction of some truly ground-breaking products for 2012, including our first adjustable Driver, RAZR Fit, we are able to give our Staff Professionals every opportunity for success.”

The Volvo Golf Champions also saw a resurgent performance from Callaway staffer Els, who was playing key products from the 2012 range, including the RAZR Fit Driver and the soon-to-be-launched Callaway HEX Black Tour Golf Ball.
