New putter: Nike reveals 'The Method'

The Nike Method putter with its distinctive face

At last it's official. The putter that has earned two majors in 2009 - in the hands of Lucas Glover and Stewart Cink - and earned three Tour victories for Paul Casey, is revealed as the Nike Method.

Casey first put it into play as a secret prototype last autumn and then used it to win in Abu Dhabi. He then claimed the Shell Houston Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in May.

The putter represents the emergence of ground breaking innovation from Nike Golf’s Research and Development centre in Fort Worth, Texas, nicknamed The Oven, where designer Tom Stites leads a team of engineers.Since switching to the Nike Method putter Glover has improved 70 places in the US Tour putting stats to 45th - and won the US Open at Bethpage Park in June. Casey has improved 43 spots and says:

“I fell in love with this putter the first time I used it. You can really feel the difference in how the ball comes off the face and see the difference in how it rolls. It has really helped my confidence.”

Says Stites: "The Nike Method dampens impact vibrations for a soft touch. The multi-material face starts the ball on a positive spin that is faster than both a milled steel putter and those with a polymer face insert."

The bad news for club golfers is that it won't be available to improve your putting until February next year in four blade options and one mallet. Price is expected to be £160.
