February 3, 2012 has been deemed the day when golfers can take delivery of TaylorMade RocketBallz irons, which the makers claim will generate ‘effortless distance and a higher and straighter ball flight’.
Says the company’s Sean Toulon: “From a technology standpoint, we have done the unthinkable and brought in metalwood engineers to help create irons with faces that behave like drivers, sending the ball high and far almost as if it was bounced off a trampoline.”
RocketBallz irons have a large, thin clubface and combined with its inverted cone technology, helps delivers more ball speed and more forgiveness, says TaylorMade, from 3-iron to lob wedge. Hollow head construction allowed engineers to lower the centre of gravity to promote a more penetrating ball flight.
A new ‘toe-bar’ feature also helps accuracy, it’s claimed, while a new dampening absorbs unwanted vibration to improve feel.
RocketBallz irons will be available from 3-iron to lob wedge for right and left-handers (no left-handed LW) with steel shafts in 8-iron sets for £549 (Graphite shafts from £649). Seven-iron sets (5-iron to SW) for women (with lightweight graphite shafts) are also available.
