We've all endured those days, the Scots refer to as 'dreak' conditions, where the rain falls as a fine mist - not quite enough to demand a waterproof top but sufficient for the damp to penetrate through your clothing and cause a chill to run through your body.

North Berwick-based ProQuip, as a leading manufacturer of lightweight weatherwear, understands the condition perfectly and has introduced a knitwear range that features a water-repellent finish. The lambswool sweaters feature a water repellent finish that beads light rain off the surface. The sweaters - and here's one for those tired of laborious hand-washing - are machine washable and tumble dryer friendly.

“Water repellent lambswool garments have previously been available for a variety of outdoor sports and pursuits but this is the first time such a high quality yarn and knit has been produced with total easy care,” says Richard Head, managing director of ProQuip, preferred supplier to the 2010 Ryder Cup.

“You can conveniently machine wash and tumble dry this garment safe in the knowledge that it will come out looking and feeling as good as new – it will also continue to perform and resist rain showers, keeping you dry and comfortable.”

The new knitwear range is available in crew-neck or V-neck (£49) and slip-over (£46) styles in black, bordeaux, tartan green, mushroom, navy, sky blue, grey mix, lilac and raspberry (sizes S-XXL).
