Look out for a new word in the golf dictionary in 2012.
RocketBallz is the name given to the latest drivers, woods and irons from the TaylorMade factory and which will appear on much of its new product.
The word was born after TaylorMade’s leading player Dustin Johnson, one of the longest hitters in the game tested a new hybrid and described the ball’s explosive release as ‘like a rocket’.
One thing led to another and engineers and designers adopted the term and created a new series of RocketBallz (RBZ) models.
Now the makers have produced two driver clubhead options - RocketBallz and RocketBallz Tour - as flagship products. PGA Tour stars Camilo Villegas and Jason Day have already put the new drivers in their bags.
“We’re setting a new standard in the driver category," claims TaylorMade’s Sean Toulan, "because speed, adjustability and Tour-validated performance have never been so affordable. Golfers can’t overlook the power of tuning these new products; there’s a RocketBallz driver out there for everyone.”
TaylorMade says the key to these white RBZ drivers is the adjustable flight control technology packaged into an aerodynamically-shaped clubhead with a lightweight shaft. It says they are even more forgiving on miss-hits.?
RocketBallz drivers will be offered from February in two models. The £249 RBZ driver is available in high launch, 9.5- and 10.5-degree lofts, while the RBZ Tour (£329) comes in nine and 10.5-degree versions.
