Wilson Golf have put pen to paper with yet another big-name star with the signing of 2004 Women’s British Open champion and Solheim Cup star Karen Stupples.
The deal between the 38-year-old and the company with more major victories than any other golf club manufacturer will see the English star play with the highly-rated FG Tour V2 irons and become a Wilson Staff Advisory member.
Stupples – who last year lead the LPGA Tour in eagles with 12 and competed in her second Solheim Cup to help recapture the trophy for the European Team – will complement her irons with the Wilson Staff FG Tour wedges, whilst also carrying the iconic red and white Wilson Staff bag.
“I am very honoured to join the Wilson Staff family,” said the Kent-born Florida resident. “I am excited for the future possibilities that come with playing the Wilson Staff irons, and proud because of the history Wilson Staff has had with the women’s game. It will be a privilege to represent the brand.”
Stupples finished the 2011 season strongly with two top-ten finishes, including a tie for fourth at the Navistar LPGA Classic and a tie for ninth at the Avnet LPGA Classic.
Says Wilson Golf’s general manager Tim Clarke: “We are excited to welcome Karen Stupples as a Wilson Staff Advisory Member. She has been a great asset to women’s golf for many years, and we believe she will continue to succeed for years to come.
“We are proud to have her represent our brand on the LPGA.”
A two-time winner on both the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour, Stupples will bring plenty of experience to her advisory role, where she’ll join three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, as well as PGA Tour stars Ricky Barnes and Kevin Streelman in influencing the development of future clubs.
