Charl Schwartzel overcame a five-stroke deficit to land his second career PGA Tour title at the Valspar Championship.

The South Africa native carded a low-round 67 on a tough final day at the Copperhead Course to force a playoff with Bill Haas on 7-under par, before sealing his second win of the year with a par on the first extra hole.

Schwartzel, who last won the Masters on American soil in 2011, has now won three times in his last seven worldwide starts.

“I thought I played really well on the weekend,” said 11-time European Tour champion Schwartzel.

“I just kept telling myself, you did it a couple weeks ago, you can do it again.”

Schwartzel relied upon a full bag of Nike clubs, none more so than his Method Prototype putter when dropping a 54-foot bomb for birdie at the tough par-3 13th, and again from 23 feet at the par-3 17th.

He also used clubs such as the Vapor Pro driver in 11.5 degrees and Vapor Pro Combo irons, interestingly without a 4-iron, while he strolled home in the new Lunar Control 4 shoes that we have been raving about recently.

Schwartzel uses the same driver and ball combination as Rory McIlroy.

Further down the leaderboard, world number one Jordan Spieth bounced back somewhat from his disastrous opening round of 76, but could only muster a tie for a 18th on level par.

Instead the spotlight was shining on his final-round playing partner in American amateur Lee McCoy, who finished solo fourth on 4-under.
