The Seve Trophy matches at Druids Glen near Dublin finished 2-2 after the first round of greensomes this morning.

Britain and Ireland captain Colin Montgomerie, paired with Paul Lawrie, lost 2 & 1 to the Danish-Swedish combination of Thomas Bjorn and Robert Karlsson, representing Continental Europe, who went to the turn in a blistering six-under-par 29.

Monty joins Andrew Oldcorn in this afternoon’s foursomes against Karlsson and Niclas Fasth.

Ian Woosnam and new boy Steve Webster had a notable victory over Jose Maria Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez 3&2, while Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley held on to beat Mathias Gronberg and Alex Cejka at the 18th, one up.

Webster links with Paul Casey this afternoon against the Spaniards, with the Irish duo facing Frenchmen Thomas Levet and Raphael Jacquelin.

Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood had led by two after seven holes against Levet and Jacquelin but lost their lead by the 14th and were eventually beaten at the 17th 2&1.

Cjeka and Bjorn will be hoping to inflict another defeat on the Westwood/Clarke combination later today.
