Rise to the top: McIlroy

Rory McIlroy

The odds-on favourite to win the Player of the Year award has enjoyed his most successful season-to-date, winning four times in 2012, highlighted by a record-breaking second major title at the PGA Championship in August.

McIlroy, who enjoys a comfortable lead over Tiger Woods in the world rankings, also claimed the Honda Classic earlier in the season and won twice during the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the Deutsche Bank Championship and BMW Championship.

The 23-year-old from Northern Ireland has also matched the feat of Luke Donald in 2011 by winning both 2012 PGA Tour and European Tour money lists.

McIlroy also topped the charts in scoring average on 68.87 and birdie average on 4.20, as well as recording ten top-ten finishes - tying for the most for the year with Bo Van Pelt.

PGA Tour Player of the Year 2012

Golfers were nominated by the PGA Tour Player Directors and members of the Player Advisory Council, where the award is determined by a member vote with PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 official money events in 2012 eligible to vote. The balloting process ends on November 30, with the winner to be announced early next month.
