Top athletes Sir Steve Redgrave, Jonathan Edwards, Alan Wells and Steve Backley will be in action at The De Vere Belfry on Monday for a celebrity skins golf match.

Playing for TaylorMade prizes, they will be launching the Schlumberger Olympic Classic series to raise funds for the British Olympic Association to send athletes to Athens next year.

The Olympians will compete against three other celebrity teams of footballers, rugby players and cricketers. Other sports stars include Rory and Tony Underwood, Phil de Glanville, Craig Chalmers, Alan Smith, Ray Wilkins, Frank McLintock, Alan McInally, Dean Headley and Gladstone Small.

Corporate teams are also taking part over the PGA National Course and everyone will receive special instruction from top pros Paul Broadhurst, Steve Webster, John Bickerton and Mark Pilkington.

The fund-raising Schlumberger series will tee off next spring with events at St Andrews, The De Vere Belfry, De Vere Mottram Hall, and The Vale Resort finishing at the Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus next July.
