The Ladies European Tour has announced that Chart Hills Golf Club in Kent, England, will host a new event on its 2000 schedule from August 31 to September 2.
The £100,000 tournament will be called the 'LET Chart Hills Classic' and will replace the Laura Davies Invitational for the 2000 season only.
Brocket Hall Golf Club was due to host the Laura Davies Invitational, but the Tour decided to move the event to Chart Hills because of a change of management team at Brocket Hall.
As a result of Brocket Hall's decision, the LET, in conjunction with Laura Davies, has postponed her tournament until 2001.
"We feel the move from Brocket Hall to Chart Hills suits all of the parties involved and that in the long-term it will be of great benefit to the Laura Davies Invitational," said Tim Howland, Chief Executive, LET.
"The Tour is indebted to Chart Hills for stepping in at such short notice. They have agreed to host the LET Chart Hills Classic as a one-off tournament with a view to re-launching the Laura Davies Invitational at Chart Hills in 2001.
"I have spoken to Laura (Davies) and we both agreed that the best option was to postpone her event."
Owing to its place on the 2000 Evian Tour schedule, the LET Chart Hills Classic adopts extra significance since the European Solheim Cup team will be announced following the final round at Chart Hills.
Those players hoping to secure automatic selection (the top-seven from the Solheim ranking) or persuade European captain Dale Reid to chose them as one of her five captain's picks, will therefore be looking to put in a strong performance over the Nick Faldo-designed layout.
