Paul McGinley of Ireland takes a two stroke lead into the third round of the Dunhill Links Championship in gloomy Scotland after a 64 at St Andrews.

Partnering Hollywood actor Kyle McLachlan in the pro-am format he had seven birdies and an eagle – holing his second shot at the 4th on The Old Course – to reach 13 under par after 36 holes.

Tied second on 11 under par are Zimbabwean Tony Johnstone and Brian Davis of England, who scraped together a 68, despite three bogies in the last three holes.

Jamie Donaldson of Wales with a 66 and Padraig Harrington of Ireland are on 10 under par, one ahead of Ernie Els and Anders Forsbrand.

Leading the team event, which includes a host of Hollywood stars and sporting celebrities, are Lucas Parsons and Jeremy Lambourne from Australia on –21, with Donaldson and cricketer Nasser Hussain on –19.
