IT happens to the best of us, the old saying goes, and it rung true this morning when World No.1 Rory McIlroy topped his opening tee shot 100 yards.

The 25-year-old was playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with his father, Gerry, and laughed off the embarrassing incident.

The Ryder Cup star was heard to say “at least I made it past the ladies’ tee” while those around him stifled their laughter.

McIlroy enjoyed himself during the Ryder Cup celebrations and was photographed topless, wearing a kilt which suggests he may have had a couple. It seems he may still be recovering.

McIlroy enjoyed himself during the Ryder Cup celebrations and was photographed wearing nothing but a kilt which suggests he may have toasted the European victory with a couple glasses of champagne. It seems he may still be recovering.

The Northern Irishman got par on the hole.
