RORY MCILROY admitted that he almost stopped playing golf when he was 15 or 16.
The world no.6 said that his parents would have stood by him whatever his decision.
"When I was about 15 or 16 I had a chat with my dad and said 'I don't know if I want to play golf any more'," explained McIlroy, 24.
"My parents said they would support me whatever I decided to do; it's always been great to have supportive parents."
It's been a roller-coaster year for McIlroy given his supposed break-up with long-term girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki, but he feels his form is now 'on the up' following a second place at the Korean Open.
The Northern Irishman is in action later this week at the European Tour's BMW Masters, partnered with compatriot Graeme McDowell and in-form Swede Henrik Stenson.
