Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth will play with Jason Day at TPC Sawgrass

Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth have been grouped together for the opening rounds of The Players Championship.

The top two ranked players in the world will be joined by Australian Jason Day in the PGA Tour's flagship event at TPC Sawgrass in Florida.

McIlroy, who turned 26 on Monday,  comes into the PGA Tour’s flagship event after winning the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco.

American Jordan Spieth, 21, denied the Northern Irishman a career Grand Slam at the Masters after becoming the first player to ever reach 19 under at Augusta en route to victory in the first major of the year.

Tiger Woods, who won the title in 2001 and 2013, tees it up at the Players for the first time since the Masters, when he tied for 17th after two months out to work on his game.

The 14-time major champion, who recently split from girlfriend Lindsey Vonn, plays with defending champion Martin Kaymer and Adam Scott.
