The Senior PGA Tour holds it first official tournament in Mexico when the $1.5 million Audi Senior Classic begins Friday at the La Vista Country Club.

This 54-hole event will feature three of the top five players on the money list. However, reigning Player of the Year Bruce Fleisher, did not make the trip south of the border.

Allen Doyle claimed his fifth victory in two years by winning last week's rain-shortened Toshiba Senior Classic. He is second behind Fleisher in season earnings with $356,888 and has posted top-10 finishes in three of his last four starts. Dana Quigley has four top-10 finishes in six starts this season, including two runner-up showings, and is third on the money list with $301,761. George Archer won the season-opening MasterCard Championships in January and has accumulated $282,026 in 2000.

Two-time Senior Tour Player of the Year Hale Irwin will be gunning for his first title of the season. After dominating the Senior Tour by claiming 16 titles and $5.1 million in 1997-98, Irwin was somewhat overshadowed by Fleisher's rookie success in 1999. However, he still won five events, and notched his third straight $2 million season. Irwin has come close to victory twice this season with top-three finishes in his first two starts.

The Audi Senior Classic is the first tournament added to the schedule since the Bank One Senior Championship made its debut last season. The La Vista Country Club is a par-72 layout that spans 7,127 yards. First prize is $225,000.
