Seve Cup delayed

Heavy rain is threatening the Seve Ballesteros Trophy at Sunningdale

Sat, 15 Apr 2000

Play has been suspended for the morning at the Eurobet Seve Ballesteros Trophy at Sunningdale due to heavy overnight rain flooding the course.

A decision is currently being made as to whether or not there will be any play at all today and that is expected at around 1.00pm this afternoon.

The crowds are out in force, even with the damp and miserable weather and the Captains will not want to disappoint the fans.

Groundsman from the European Tour are currently working on the course to make it playable for some golf this afternoon, but if we have any more rain here, play will surely be cancelled for the day.

It has been a bad week for weather across the golfing globe with both the MCI Classic and PGA Senior Tour Championship suffering with heavy rains in America and now it looks almost certain that the inaugural Ballesteros Trophy may suffer the same fate.

Officials also announced that car parks 1 and 2 are closed due to the bad weather and are advising all spectators to come via public transport with Sunningdale train station five minutes walk from the course.
