Tenerife set for matchplay event

A new matchplay event is to be introduced into the Ladies European Tour schedule to give the leading contenders for Solheim Cup places a chance to sharpen their game and catch the eye of the selectors ahead of the big event at Killeen Castle in Ireland from September 23-25.

The Tenerife Ladies Match Play will be held at Golf Las Américas on the island from June 9-12 with both a match-play and strokeplay format.

Thirty-two players, the top 30 European ranked professionals and two guest players, will compete head to head to pare down to eight players, who will then play 18 holes strokeplay to decide the winner and the other prize-money classifications.

Last year's 72-hole strokeplay tournament at Buenavista Golf Club was won by Trish Johnson.
