Faldo is an a**hole - Torrance

Sam Torrance has branded Sir Nick Faldo an “a**hole" for labeling Sergio Garcia "useless" on TV before the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Faldo, Europe’s losing captain in 2008, questioned the Spaniard’s attitude during his tenure as captain at Valhalla.

"To say that right in the middle of the Ryder Cup, what was the a***hole thinking about?" Torrance told the latest issue of Bunkered magazine.

"The reaction in the team room was magnificent. The guys rallied round Garcia like he was an injured, well, goose!

"Really, it was pathetic from Faldo. I've no idea where he was coming from with that stuff. You can even quote me on that, I don't care.

"He's an a***hole. It was beyond belief that one of our greatest-ever players would come out with a comment like that.

"Garcia's not a team player? Have a look in the mirror, pal.”

Former R&A captain's daughter killed in Sydney siege

A victim of the Sydney café siege was the daughter of Sandy Dawson, former Royal & Ancient captain.

Katrina Dawson, 38, was killed after self-styled Muslim cleric Man Haron Monis held 17 hostages in a Lindt Chocolate café.

Dawson, a mother of three young children, was a barrister specialising in commercial, bankruptcy and corporations law.

Tiger and Phil lead task force

Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods took charge of the first US Ryder Cup task force meeting, according to Golf.com.

Davis Love III, captain in 2012, said: “Tiger took charge. Raymond took charge, Phil took charge.

“We have guys who are very confident, very smart and sure of themselves. Somebody is going to step up and be the leader of this thing and that’s what we need."

Clarke to raise breast cancer awareness in Dubai

Darren Clarke is hoping to raise awareness of breast cancer at the Dubai Open by wearing a badge on his collar at the Els Club.

Clarke’s late wife Heather passed away from breast cancer in 2006 and the Northern Irishman is keen to play a role in the final tournament of the 2014 Asian Tour season.

“Spenny (David Spencer – strategic adviser of golf in Dubai) gave me an interesting stat last night,” Clarke said. “He said 28% of female deaths in the UAE die of breast cancer, and that’s an amazing stat and that will be reduced by 50% with early detection."

Tiger opens first course

After three failed attempts Tiger Woods's career as a course architect is under way after the 14-time major champion opened his first layout in Mexico.

Woods's prior designs were abandoned due to the recession so the 38-year-old will have breathed a sigh of relief when he cut the ribbon at El Cardonal, Cabo San Lucas.

Woods then teed it up on the 7,400-yards, par-71 track.
