Welshman Ian Woosnam and Korean Charlie Wi, two of the smallest players on the European Tour, have made two of the biggest moves on the second day of the Qatar Masters in Doha.
After 15 holes, both are on seven under par, just one shot behind the new leader Jose Manuel Lara of Spain, who has picked up three shots in 12 holes to be eight-under. Also tied second is Jean Francois Remesy of France aft 15 holes.
Overnight leaders Klas Eriksson and Joakim Haeggman from Sweden have just started their second rounds after shooting six-under 66s yesterday over the desert course.
Also on the same mark are England’s great hope for the future Nick Dougherty, Scot Stephen Gallacher and Argentinian Eduardo Romero – all with still a handful of holes to play.
*Chilean Guillermo Encina leads the the Barbados Senior Open –the first event on the European Senior Tour – with an opening round 68.
He’s two shots ahead of veteran Tommy Horton, with Peter Townsend and Americans David Oakley, John Grace and Jerry Bruner all firing one under par 71s over the windy Royal Westmoreland course. Tony Jacklin opened with a nine over par 81.
