OFFICIAL WORLD RANKINGS

As it is pretty clear, Tiger Woods has an almost insurmountable lead in the World rankings and suggestions have been made that the World number One should take a couple of years off so the rest can catch up!

Woods leads the World rankings by a record margin thanks to his 3rd Major and 15-shot victory in the US Open Championship.

But Colin Montgomerie, who was so close to nailing the number two spot, falls back a little thanks mainly to his poor performance at Pebble Beach.

US Ryder Cup Standings as of 21/6/00

The top 10 players from the US Ryder Cup Points List are automatically on the 2001 Ryder Cup Team. The list consists of points earned over a two-year period beginning with the first official tournament in the even year (2000) and ending with the US PGA Championship in the odd year (2001). Points are earned when a player finishes in the top 10 of a tournament with the winner earning the most points. Points are doubled for major championships, and in the odd year all points are doubled.

However, the European Ryder Cup rankins start at the BMW tournament later this year.
