Matt Kuchar landed Bridgestone Golf’s second title in three weeks on the PGA Tour after sealing victory at the WGC-Matchplay following an exceptional display of ball striking with his J40 equipment.

The 34-year-old American claimed his first win since collecting last year’s Players Championship after holding his nerve for a 2&1 triumph over compatriot and defending champion Hunter Mahan.

The perpetually-smiling Kuchar, who has now won 14 of his 16 matches at Dove Mountain, trailed for just four holes all week.

After enduring a seven-year victory drought between his first win and his second – including a spell on the now Tour back in 2006 - Kuchar has now won a PGA Tour event in four of the last five years.

With the help of new Bridgestone equipment and work with instructor Chris O’Connell, the newly-promoted World No.8 believes he has become a much more consistent player.

“I understand and appreciate the effort that goes into getting back to that winner’s circle,” said the five-time PGA Tour champion, who has locked up three top-ten finishes in five events this year.

“I absolutely think these wins are more special because of the hard times.

“I was good in my younger days but streaky. I could be really good for a while and then struggle. And now I feel like I’m a golfer that can hit quality shots week in, week out, day in and day out.”
