The Nike Method Core Drone uses an extreme mallet head design and 'Opti-Mass' weighting in the centre and wing tips, keeping your stroke on track and preventing clubhead twisting for extra accuracy more holed putts! What you get is a putter that combines soft polymer and milled steel grooves to generate faster, more controlled forward roll at impact. What you won’t get is backspin that causes skidding and hopping.

The Core Drone is going to split opinion looks-wise as many over-sized mallets do. Traditionalists won’t be lapping up the appearance but I quite like it. It looks like it’s been designed by NASA and I like to think that kind of brain-power is going into my putter design.

Despite the polymer face insert, which can often dull putter's feel, the Core Drone gave great feedback and the soft-feeling face got the ball rolling quickly. It is also a forgiving putter, as many mallets are, with off-centre putts still performing well.

It is a nicely weighted putter thanks to the ‘wings’ and it is balanced throughout the stroke. For me, I found the insert took a while to get used to as I had to hit the ball harder than I’m used to resulting in many putts being left short.

Verdict

Great feel and a stable putter throughout the stroke.
