Head heavy
Our score:
PRICE: £99.99 YEAR: from 2015

The Nike Engage wedge has a minimalist feel to it in terms of appearance, with very little branding on show. It's reminiscent of a prototype club, that is yet to go through the marketing department.

The wedge comes in three options - the Toe Sweep, Square and Dual Sole. All three have a rounded leading edge and have a blade-vibe to them, which means they look fantastic behind the ball.

The second generation Toe Sweep has a wide toe and narrow heel allowing the club to be opened at address. The clubhead is denser than the other designs, and the contoured sole and trailing edge reduces drag when in the rough or bunker.

The Square design is for players who rarely manipulate the loft of their wedges and are looking for consistency. It gives you an exact yardage and it has superb dispersion rates.

The Dual Sole, inspired by grinds used by staffers Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, is for the player who wants versatility from their wedge. It works when aligned square to the target, and when opened up.

All three versions were middle of the pack in terms of distance and spin rates with a 56 degree version. They have a naturally high launch, especially the Toe Sweep.

The balance is slightly off, giving the club a head heavy feel. This somewhat dampens the feel and feedback on offer.

It's a decent wedge from Nike, but not outstanding.
