Freddie Flintoff has been a De Vere Club ambassador for the best part of two years now and it’s fair to say he’s been bowled over ever since, as he explained to Golfmagic.

“I have to be committed to something in order to take it seriously and that’s very much the case as my role as an ambassador,” said the former England Ashes hero.

“We have 11 great clubs attached to the scheme and 16 fantastic courses and I’m not just saying that because I work for them.

“I would say Slaley Hall is my favourite. I played it last year and I’ve been able to take my mates a few times. And I really enjoyed Wokefield Park for the Invitational. It was in immaculate condition.

“I primarily use my membership to play golf with friends, but I can also use my points for my wife to have spa treatments as well as all the family to use the leisure facilities at the resorts.

“The flexibility really does give myself, family and friends everything I need to enjoy my leisure time. De Vere, as a whole, provides a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and that’s just how I like it. It’s how golf should be.”

De Vere, who celebrated its second anniversary in March, has changed the way modern golfers look at club memberships with a unique approach that has been championed for its flexibility and affordability.

“We took a view that annual golf membership would regress and even if the economy slips, it’s not going back to how it was,” said De Vere Club’s director of golf Daniel Hodson.

“Giving golfers a flexible option made it easier for them to enter the golf membership market. We treat members in exactly the same way as any normal golf club.

“We have decent booking windows where golfers fit in around corporate days, and you also get to play 16 stunning golf courses.

“At the start, we definitely struggled with people thinking it was too good to be true, and only once they joined and told their mates, we began to take off.”
