Golfmagic tees up on one of Surrey's oldest gems

If it's charm you're looking for, then look no further than West Hill, a course lined with pine, birch and tangly heather - hallmarks of a classic Surrey course.

As a Surrey resident myself, I'd happily place this track up there with my favourites including St George's Hill and Wentworth. It's all about getting the ball in the fairway and a deft touch on the contoured greens.

Another key to score well at this Brookwood gem is the successful negotiation of the five short holes, with the best coming at the par-3 15th, measuring a whopping 212 yards from the back. With pin located on the right of the giant slope in the green - which looks like they've buried an elephant - I cannot tell you how fast my putt was from the left-hand side. I think my ball is still running.

I have no qualms in recommending this place to anyone looking for a game in Surrey. The course is located on Bagshot Road, some five miles north of Guildford.
