World Cup winner Pepe Reina chilled out after the extended Spanish celebrations with a round of golf at Son Gual, the number one destination on the holiday isle of Mallorca.

The Liverpool goalkeeper – who acted as an impromptu compere for the team’s celebrations after the World Cup final – visited the Palma course on recommendation of teammate, Albert Riera, who was born locally and cites the golf course as his favourite.

Reina was in Mallorca for the wedding of fellow Spaniard and Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta to the former Miss Spain, Lorena Bernal.

A spokesman for Son Gual said: “As you can imagine, Pepe proved hugely popular with all the local staff, particularly the ladies who all received kisses from him.

“Even the German members of staff enjoyed meeting him, as nobody mentioned the semi-final.”

Reina is just the latest in a growing line of celebrities charmed by the beauty and playability of the Son Gual course.

World number one tennis star Rafael Nadal is a frequent visitor, while former footballers Jamie Redknapp, Andy Gray and Alan McInally were among a group of Sky Sports analysts and commentators who visited for an end-of-season golf day.

Other familiar faces at the course have included comedian Jasper Carrott, tennis legend Boris Becker and German national football coach Joachim Löw.
