Not the best looking but it does the trick
Our score:
PRICE: £169.00 YEAR: from 2013

Scottsdale TR putters are named for the true roll they provide as the result of PING’s innovative new variable-depth-groove technology. The grooves are deepest in the centre and get gradually shallower toward the perimeter to equalise ball speeds for exceptional distance control on putts struck on the centre, heel or toe. The adjustable-length shaft also helps optimise performance.

Perhaps the only aspect that isn’t exemplary is appearance. By no means ugly but we found the simple black mallet design a little bland. We did receive decent alignment, however.

In terms of feel, there is a springy face that isn’t so springy you lose control – perfect. Just a tap was needed on the short putts and a solid stroke was needed from further back. All in all, the Scottsdale TR Grayhawk gave us just the feel we crave in a putter, on top of a very reassuring sound and feel off the face.

The putter also sits nicely on the ground and the long grip had us standing up tall, aiding a smooth stroke. The long alignment aid helped us pour in the shorties and was also helpful from outside 10-feet. Variable Depth Grooves ensured off-centre hits felt like they were still moving on our intended path. A nicely weighted putter that we just couldn’t miss with from that must-make distance.

Verdict

A fantastic putter and well worth splashing the cash. PING has created a putter that has the perfect feel for the greens as we like keep our strokes as short as possible without losing the ability to control distance. If we had to highlight an area that didn’t score top marks, it would be appearance, yet this test is not a fashion show after all.
