English teenager Kris Kim revealed his mother was far too nervous to follow her 16-year-old son at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after he became the youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut in nine years.

Kim fired a second round of 67 after his opening 68 to move to seven-under after 36 holes at TPC Craig Ranch.

He is the youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut since Kyle Suppa did so at the 2015 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Kim also became the youngest European to make the cut in PGA Tour history in his debut appearance.

A number of big names, such as the highest-ranked player in the field in Jordan Spieth, missed the cut here in Texas.

Spieth's second round involved an errant tee shot from the American hitting a spectator squarely on the elbow before his golf ball settled in the middle of the fairway.

Kim only dropped two shots during the second round.

He put circles on his scorecard on two, three, five, six, nine and 18.

Kim's mother, Ji-Hyun Suh, is a former LPGA Tour player but, according to the amateur, her nerves were shredded.

"She didn't actually follow round today," Kim said.

"[She was] too nervous. She was really good. She just told me to commit to every shot and then if it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't."

So what about his nerves?

Kim said they weren't 'too bad' then offered the most relatable line: "It's golf, at the end of the day, so..."

So what to expect over the next two days?

"Go as low as possible and have some fun out there," he said.

"I've enjoyed it so much the last couple days, and being here two more days makes it so much sweeter."

At the other end of the leaderboard, Jake Knapp holds a one-shot lead over England's Matt Wallace and Troy Merritt.

Knapp is bidding for his second PGA Tour win of the season.
