Spieth debuts new putter at Byron Nelson

Renowned putter switches from blade design to fang mallet after struggling on the greens

Spieth debuts new putter at Byron Nelson

Jordan Spieth is debuting a new Scotty Cameron prototype Futura T5W Tour Only putter at the Byron Nelson this week.

The Texan, who is regarded as one of the best putters in the sport, has made the switch from a blade putter to the more forgiving fang mallet design.

The new putter has two alignment aids, one that shows the centre of the sweet spot and another that is the width of the golf ball, removed from the face.

Spieth has struggled on the greens this year, relative to his usual high standards, and ranks 39th in strokes gained putting on the PGA Tour.

He shot a 2 under 68 in the opening round of the Byron Nelson, to sit four shots behind leaders James Hahn and Ricky Barnes.
